Arohena School - Where we strive to provide excellence in all aspects of education

Staff Profile:

Helena Shaw:

I am Helena Shaw. I am originally from the UK and I have been in New Zealand for three years. This is my sixth year of teaching and I am currently enjoying teaching my second Year 0-3 class.  I love teaching Maths and writing- especially poetry.

I currently live in Te Awamutu and I travel into Arohena daily, enjoying the beautiful countryside. I am appreciating learning about farming from the children I teach and we love to incorporate the Arohena way of life and countryside into our learning.

 Claire Walker:
I was born in the UK and moved to the beautiful country of New Zealand 9 years ago with my husband Lee and two daughters Georgina and Charlotte. We moved to the town of Cambridge around the time we arrived here. During my spare time I am a Girl Guide Leader in Cambridge and love getting them into the community and on camps.

This is my first year of teaching and I love teaching the children of Room 2, they are an awesome group of children. I studied fulltime at Waikato University whilst working fulltime, so not a lot of free time, which certainly made me very good at making sure I got things done! I am loving working at Arohena School as it is a fantastic school situated in the beautiful countryside with fantastic staff, students and parents.
